Why this matters

Stale content creates stale answers

Many small businesses have blog posts that were useful when published but no longer match current services, service areas, prices, proof, examples, or customer questions. In classic SEO, this can reduce trust and conversions. In AI search, it also gives answer engines weak or outdated source material to summarize.

The goal is not to stuff new keywords into old posts. The goal is to make each still-useful page accurate, specific, proof-backed, internally linked, and clear enough that a buyer can take the next step.

Target buyer question: [what the page should answer]

1. Keep / merge / retire decision
Keep if the topic is still useful and can be made accurate.
Merge if several weak posts answer the same question.
Retire or redirect if the page no longer matches the business or cannot be supported.

2. Current offer and audience
Does the post still describe the right service, product, audience, location, and next step?
Update vague phrases such as "solutions" or "best service" with specific customer language.

3. Facts and proof
Mark every statistic, testimonial, case example, award, certification, guarantee, price, service area, and policy claim.
Keep only claims the business can verify. Add source links or internal proof notes where appropriate.

4. Buyer questions
Add or improve answers to the five questions a current buyer asks before contacting the business:
fit, cost factors, timing, process, preparation, proof, risks, and next step.

5. Internal links
Add links to the most relevant service page, contact page, FAQ/resource page, proof page, and next-step offer.
Use descriptive anchor text, not only "click here" or "learn more."

6. AI summary clarity
Can a reader summarize the post in one sentence: who it helps, what problem it solves, what steps to take, and what proof supports it?
If not, rewrite the introduction and conclusion.

7. Schema and formatting
Use clear headings, lists, FAQs, author/update dates, and relevant Article or FAQ schema only when the page actually contains those elements.

8. Human-review stop rules
Before publishing, verify legal, medical, financial, safety, warranty, pricing, guarantee, professional-license, customer-proof, and regulated claims with the responsible person.

Refresh workflow

Do not rewrite everything at once

  1. Pick pages that already get impressions, traffic, sales questions, or support questions.
  2. Decide whether each page should be kept, merged, retired, or redirected.
  3. Update the introduction, facts, proof, FAQ answers, internal links, and next step.
  4. Add a short "last reviewed" note only after a human actually reviewed the claims.
  5. Track the refreshed URL, date, target query, and next check date in a simple sheet.

Human review rule: AI can draft wording, but a business owner, manager, or subject-matter expert must verify any factual, pricing, legal, regulated, customer-proof, or performance claim before publishing.
