Why partner directories need source-of-truth guardrails
Partner and resource pages often contain relationship claims that become outdated quickly: preferred vendors, certifications, sponsorships, associations, referral partners, resellers, integrations, nonprofit partners, local chambers, or “trusted” providers. If those claims are stale or unsupported, AI search tools can repeat them as fact and create customer, legal, or reputation risk.
Partner-directory source-of-truth card
| Field | What to capture | Human review rule |
|---|---|---|
| Partner or organization | Name, website, category, geography served, contact/owner, and whether this is a partner, vendor, sponsor, reseller, association, certification, integration, referral source, or resource link. | Do not use generic “partner” language if the relationship is only a vendor, listing, paid placement, or resource mention. |
| Proof and permission | Agreement, directory listing, certification record, email approval, public profile, logo-use permission, disclosure requirement, review date, and expiration/renewal date. | Do not display logos, badges, endorsements, certifications, or “preferred” wording without permission/source proof. |
| Approved wording | One-line public description, allowed relationship phrase, prohibited phrases, required disclaimer, affiliate/referral disclosure, and who approved the text. | AI may rewrite for clarity, not relationship strength. It cannot invent endorsements, guarantees, reseller rights, certifications, or exclusivity. |
| Customer impact | What a visitor can do next, whether the business receives compensation, who handles support, geographic limits, current availability, and escalation owner for questions. | Review regulated, paid, or customer-service-sensitive claims with the responsible owner before publication. |
| Refresh cadence | Last verified date, next review date, source URL status, owner, renewal trigger, removal trigger, and page(s) affected. | No partner claim should stay live without an owner and next review date. |
